Data the State Won't Stand Behind

RRC's query system carries the agency's own note that the data is not an authoritative record — verification is your job. NWIP hunts defects against a numbered data-fidelity register and renders silent source blanks as honest absence, never zero-filled. Every data point in NWIP traces directly to its primary regulatory source — ECMC in Colorado, the Railroad Commission and TCEQ in Texas — no aggregators, no intermediaries. Getting there means decoding EBCDIC mainframe tapes and COBOL copybook layouts, running OCR over scanned filings, and crosswalking operators and wells across systems that share no common key. Collection method, URL patterns, transformation steps, and ingestion dates are documented in the methodology report included with every delivery package.
Validated Joins
Foreign key resolution rates are verified across every table in both states. Core records resolve to the well registry at documented rates, and known gaps — such as sidetrack wellbores absent from the source well registry — are captured with row-level counts and root-cause explanations.
Null Rate Documentation
Every column in every delivery table has a documented null rate. Expected nulls — such as oil volumes for gas-only wells, or depth fields absent from the source shapefile — are distinguished from data gaps and explained in the validation report.
Delivery Manifest
Every delivery package includes a SHA-256 checksum manifest, a full validation report, a methodology document, a data dictionary, a quickstart guide, and a schema reference. Customers can verify file integrity on receipt and trace every analytical output back to its source.
